What I Wore in Paris
Heading to the eternally chic City of Lights this past fall, I wanted to make sure that I didn’t stand out as a tourist. Parisian women are known worldwide for their particular brand of style and I wanted to do my best to fit in with them.
I scrutinized and second-guessed my wardrobe until I had finally put together a mini-wardrobe that I’d feel good in while cycling along the Seine, exploring the Louvre, or having a picnic at the foot of the Eiffel Tower.
If you’ve been reading here awhile you know that I’m not a micro-packer. I get bored wearing the same clothes all the time so I like to mix it up. While I could’ve packed a lot less I’m happy with what I did bring.
Almost every day, I was asked for directions by a tourist. I’m going to take that as the stamp of approval on my outfit choices!
So what did I pack for Paris?
As much as I love them, my high heels had no place in Paris. Black ballet flats and white Converse sneakers (they’re like a religion unto themselves in Paris) were my best friends. One of my favourite little tricks for looking put together but super comfortable at the same time is jersey skirts. I have them in multiple colours, in both mid-thigh and knee-skimming pencil skirt lengths.
Another favourite travel item of mine are lightweight blouses in wrinkle proof material. They’re not generally considered travel clothing but if you get loose fitting ones you can be just as comfy as in a tshirt. Bonus: they take up no weight, pack up incredibly small, and dry fast.
When it came to jewelry I kept it pretty simple. One set of gold, one set of silver, and a few extra fun earrings and cocktail rings. Cocktail rings add a lot of visual punch to an outfit without taking up a lot of space in your luggage.
Here are four key outfits that I wore during my week in town. If you only packed these items you could mix and match for at least a dozen variations.
1) Black Skinnies, Lightweight Blouse, Black Flats
1. Black skinny denim / 2. Lightweight blouse (similar) / 3. Black loafers (similar)
2) Patterned Crop Pants, Grey T-shirt, Black Flats
1. Patterned crop pants (similar) / 2. Grey t-shirt (similar) / 3. Black loafers (similar) / 4. Gold chevron necklace (similar)
3) Jersey Skirt, Tank, Denim Jacket, Converse
1. Striped jersey pencil skirt (similar) / 2. Black tank (similar) / 3. Denim jacket / 4. Converse All-Stars
4) Jersey Skirt, Tights, Blouse, Converse
1. Black jersey skirt (similar) / 2. Lightweight blouse (similar) / 3. Maroon tights / 4. Converse All-Stars

I was hoping to get some actual outfit shots when I was in Paris but it’s hard as a solo traveller who’s worried that people will steal their camera. Maybe I need a selfie stick. ;)
