Staying at The Godfrey Hotel in Chicago

The Godfrey Hotel - Chicago | SuitcaseandHeels.com

As soon as I walked into the minimalist, freshly scented lobby of The Godfrey Hotel in Chicago I knew I wasn’t cool enough to stay there. They let me check in anyway. They’re nice like that.

The lobby was an immaculately clean oval heaven. Everything from the lighting to the benches to the check-in desk was oval shaped. They really know how to commit to a theme. They also carried a periodic element theme throughout the hotel as well: room numbers, door hangers, event boards and more. You can certainly discover your element at The Godfrey. Maybe it’s relaxing in a plush bathrobe on a purple velvet couch with a glass of wine in your room. Or perhaps it’s sipping a cocktail in your sky high heels at the uber cool I|O Urban Roofscape. Even if it’s working up a sweat and busting your ass in the gym, you can find your element here.

My Executive King room was large and airy with a hip rock ‘n roll vibe. The mirrored armoire was great for checking my outfit before a night on the town and the white desk was a great background for Instagramming my shopping haul from the nearby Magnificent Mile. I felt indulgent wrapping myself in the heavy robe after showering with the lime-scented L’Occitane bath products.

Even though it was a weeknight I had to go check out the I|O Urban Roofscape, an indoor/outdoor lounge with extra large booths, giant video wall and retractable roof. There are fantastic views of the Chicago skyline all along the south wall. I could see this being a great place to get your night started or finish it off with a nightcap. Maybe both?

Knowing that Chicago is the kind of exciting city that might keep you jazzed up all night, there were two bottles of neuro SLEEP next to the bed to help get me primed for dreamland. They really seemed to think of everything. The drink helped me get to sleep and the bed kept me there. Where do hotels get such comfortable beds?

The Godfrey has a bold design aesthetic and sticks with it in everything they do. These are spaces I love being in. A temporary escape from the doldrums of housekeeping and my own decor that I’ve been looking at for the last 9 years. A stay at a posh hotel lets me feel like a pampered princess, even if just for a night or two. Rooms like these make travel fun.

Do you love staying in hotels like I do?

Looks like you had a great time at that hotel Mel.
Love hotels that allow oneself to indulge in the finer things. Loews Hollywood has a similar experience with opulence and solid service. Really enjoyed staying there.
Plus bed was uber comfortable like your Chicago one (sadly way too big for carry-on home).
Splurge more on a hotel than a flight, because it lasts longer
